Setup Checklist

Everything you need to set up your Facebook and Instagram ads the right way, from Business Portfolio to your first campaign.

Create Your Business Portfolio
Go to business.facebook.com on your desktop
Navigate to Business Portfolio on the top left side. Do not use your personal Ads Manager, Account Center, or boost posts from Instagram.
Required
Create a new Business Portfolio
Enter your Skool community name, your first and last name, and your email address. Click Create.
Add a trusted person with full control
In Settings, add another admin with their email address. Give them full access so you always have a backup.
Tip: Always add a second person with full access. If you ever lose access to your account, they can help you recover it.

Set Up Your Facebook Page
Add or create your Facebook Page
If you have an existing page, add it and request approval. If not, create a new page with your Skool name and category (Education or Consulting).
Required for ads
Complete your page profile
Upload a profile photo of yourself, add your Skool banner as the cover photo (upload from Canva in high resolution, not downloaded from Skool), fill in your bio, and link to your Skool About page.
Write your intro post
Use the formula: "Join my [Skool community] for [who you serve] who want to [outcome] using [your method]." Add a photo of yourself.
Formula: Join my X for Y who want to Z using my method. This is the same formula you use everywhere in your marketing.

Create Your Ad Account
Create a new Ad Account
Go to Add Accounts, then Create an Ad Account. Name it after your Skool community, set your time zone and currency, and confirm terms.
Assign yourself full permissions
Go to Accounts, then Assign People. Assign yourself with "Manage Everything" access. Bookmark the Ads Manager URL for easy access.

Connect Instagram
Add your Instagram account
If you have an Instagram account, log in on your laptop and connect it here. If you need to create one, do that separately first, then log in to connect. Note your email and password.
Optional
Good to know: You do not need an Instagram account to advertise on Instagram. Your Facebook Page will be used automatically.

Set Up Your Pixel (Data Set)
Create a new Data Set
Name it after your Skool community. Check the special categories (most of us don't fall under any). Select your ad account to connect it to.
Connect the pixel to your Skool community
Copy your Data Set ID (Pixel ID). In Skool, go to Settings, then Plugins, then Meta Tracking. Turn it on and paste your Pixel ID.
Requires Skool Pro
Set up the Conversion API
In Events Manager, go to Settings, then Conversion API. Get Started, agree to terms. Generate the access token, paste it in Skool, and click Connect.

Final Steps
Add your payment method
In your Ad Account, add your credit card details under Payment Methods.
Required
Add your phone number and confirm your page
Complete the Account Overview prompts: confirm your Facebook Page and add a phone number. Once done, you are ready to run your first campaign.
